Spring 08, MWF 10-10:50 AM EGRA 0219

Course Description:
The rapid growth in computer performance is attributed to both the advances in technology and the innovations in computer design. This course will cover the both fundamental principles and advanced optimization techniques to design high-performance microprocessors. In this class, we will explore the cutting-edge microarchitectural/architectural techniques and its interactions with advanced compiler optimizations to maximize instruction level parallelism (ILP) . This course will also impart insights and hands-on experiences for designing contemporary microprocessors that are widely used in desktop, server and high-performance embedded markets. In addition, students are expected to learn the research process in the field of computer architecture.
