EXTERN PROGRAM

What:
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the Extern Program with Southern Illinois University Carbondale, College of Engineering. Established by the SIU Alumni Association in 1984, the award-winning Extern Program places SIU's top students with sponsors for a learning experience over Spring Break in March of each year.

As an Extern, you will observe the daily operations, assist with projects, and meet with professionals from a company or organization in your chosen career field. Why do it? It is an excellent resume builder and a great opportunity to help you clarify your career goals, gain practical experience, and make valuable professional contacts.

The sponsors, in turn, are given the opportunity to view the quality of SIUC students. As the Coordinator for Cooperative Education and Internships, I know how important it is for you to find the right student(s) to fill both your long and short-term employment needs. Sponsor participation in the Extern Program can help by providing the opportunity to meet and observe potential employment candidate(s), first hand, on-site at your facility for a week at NO COST to you!

Many sponsors see the program as an opportunity to interview potential employees, with approximately 52 percent of extern participants offered future, full-time employment or internship positions.

When:
5 days, Monday - Friday, in March (over Spring Break)
