Through expansion and acquisitions, CONSOL Energy has evolved from a single-fuel mining company into a multi-energy producer of coal, gas and electricity. CONSOL produces both high-Btu coal and gas, which collectively fuels two-thirds of all U.S. power generation, from reserves located mainly east of the Mississippi River. CONSOL Energy is a major fuel supplier to the electric power industry in the northeast quadrant of the United States. In addition, CONSOL Energy has expanded the use of its vast property holdings by brokering various industrial and retail development projects and overseeing timber sale and forestry management activities both in the U.S. and abroad. The company also maintains the largest private research and development facilities devoted exclusively to coal and energy utilization and production. CONSOL Energy will have Jerald Kowzan the Director of Human Resources on campus for an informal informational presentation on the companies staffing needs and to conduct interviews.

Simplex is a high technology engineering company involved in design, development and production of highly specialized electrical test systems and fuel supply systems. We are not mass producers. We are experts at developing unique solutions by designing and producing custom built products. Our customers include Caterpillar, General Electric, Sundstrand, Boeing and all branches of the military. Many hospitals throughout the country rely on Simplex products to provide emergency backup electrical power. Simplex equipment is used for the McDonnell-Douglas MD-11 and MD-80 and the Boeing 777 jetliners, the Space Shuttle, and all destroyers, cruisers and nuclear submarines and locomotives produced in this country.
Simplex has been in business since 1938 and in Springfield since 1952. We have been under the same family ownership and management throughout. The owners are Springfield residents. All members of Simplex reside in Springfield or in the adjoining communities. The demand for our specialized services is fairly constant and we have enjoyed steady growth, free of boom/bust cycles.
We are an engineering oriented business. Most of our work is dedicated to creative design and development. Our production processes are limited to sheet metal fabrication, plumbing assembly and light assembly of electrical equipment. We are not, in any way, what one would consider a “smokestack” industry.
