Bandpass signals and systems characterization, optimum receivers for detecting digital modulation signals in AWGN, block and convolutional channel codes, communication through bandlimited channels.

Goals:
To provide electrical and computer engineering majors with the ability to analyze digital communication system performance in AWGN channels.
To familiarize the students with the performance analysis of error control coded modulation in AWGN channels.

To provide an introduction to waveform shaping and equalization for bandlimited channels.
Projects:
Simulate Viterbi decoding of a convolutional code using Matlab or C.
Simulate a linear equalizer performance for detecting bandlimited signals in AWGN.
