NAPS2006 NEWS AND UPDATES

  • The Conference Program is now available online under Conference Schedule. There are 115 technical papers organized in 25 technical sessions.

  • Conference Statistics:

    • Registration (presently): 125 participants outside SIUC, of which 85 students.

    • Technical Papers: 115 papers involving 240 authors.

    • Countries of Origin: We have many international participants, so far  from Hong Kong, Sweden, India, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Haiti, Japan, and England.

  • Student Accommodations: This year we will be able to accommodate all student participants who registered early. Student participants will receive the information of their hotel along with their roommate's name.

  • IMPORTANT. If you plan to attend the conference and you haven't done so already, please contact Lana ( lanac@siu.edu ) to make arrangements for room and transportation. We need to know your flight,  if you arriving into Marion, so we can pick you up, and your sex information to arrange you into a room.

  • Conference Transportation:

    • If you are arriving at St. Louis Airport and need to transportation to Carbondale, you should schedule it through BART transportation.  1 (800) 284-2278.  The approximate cost is $90 roundtrip.

    • If you are arriving at Williamson County Airport, Marion, IL, please send us an email ( lanac@siu.edu ) with the date of your arrival, the time and the flight number.  Your flight will be met by a shuttle which will deliver you to your hotel.  If you are leaving on September 19, a shuttle will be provided by the conference.  After that date, a taxi will need to be arranged through the hotel.

    • Shuttles will be available during the Conference between the hotels and the Conference site.

  • Correction to the Student Paper Contest Rules: All papers where the first author is a student qualify for the contest. A faculty (e.g. the student advisor) can be one of the authors but not the first author of the paper. Therefore papers where the first author is the student and the second author is the advisor DO qualify for the contest.

  • Conference Recreational Activities:

If you are arriving at the NAPS conference by 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, you may choose to attend one of two activities.

  • A canoe trip to the Lower Cache River Trail will offer paddlers a quality canoe experience, through magnificent cypress-tupelo swamp. The highlight of the trail is Illinois’ largest, and, therefore, state champion bald cypress tree. Like many trees within the Cache River State Natural Area, it is more than 1,000 years old. The group will leave the hotel at 9 am on a bus to the Cache River.  After canoeing for approximately one hour the group will return to the Barkhausen Wetlands Center to eat lunch and tour the center.  Guests will return to the hotel by 3 pm.  Cost $30, includes guided canoe trip, transportation and lunch.

  • The second option is to visit the SIUC Power plant. This group will leave the hotel at 11:30 am and return by 3 pm. The tour will be of the boilers, the gen set, switch gear plus the solar array and associated controls.  The participants will see excellent clean coal technologies at the plant including the FBC boiler and Wiltowski's filter project.  Cost $15 for guided tour, transportation and lunch.

To participate in either of these trips, send an email to lanac@siu.edu no later than September 5.  The same credit card that you used for registration will be charged the $30 fee for the trip.
