NAPS2006  Program

   SUNDAY, September 17

10:00A-02:30P      Recreational Activities for Early Arrivals

If you are arriving at the NAPS conference by 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 17,

you may choose to attend one of two activities

·         Canoe trip to the Lower Cache River Trail will offer paddlers a quality canoe experience, through magnificent cypress-tupelo swamp. The highlight of the trail is Illinois’ largest, and, therefore, state champion bald cypress tree. Like many trees within the Cache River State Natural Area, it is more than 1,000 years old. The group will leave the hotel at 9 am on a bus to the Cache River.  After canoeing for approximately one hour the group will return to the Barkhausen Wetlands Center to eat lunch and tour the center. Guests will return to the hotel by 3 pm. Cost $30, includes guided canoe trip, transportation and lunch.

·         Tour of the SIUC Power plant. This group will leave the hotel at 11:30 am and return by 3 pm. SIU Campus Power Plant features a state of the art coal fired fluidized bed cogeneration unit, a photo-voltaic array and the control systems used to tie these systems to the campus and the grid. Cost $15 for guided tour, transportation and lunch.

To participate in either of these trips, send an email to  lanac@siu.edu  no later than September 5.  The same credit card that you used for registration will be charged for the trip.

06:30-10:00P         Reception and Banquet: Dinner at Touch of Nature and Music by Bone Dry River Band.

The Bone Dry River Band plays a happy, upbeat mixture of music all in a traveling Americana style; influences from bluegrass, folk, stone country, and roots rock and roll are all evident, but seamlessly combined into a recognizably River Region blend. The vocals are expressive and the harmonies are thick and stacked. Anderson and Auxier are songwriters with long experience and these are supplemented with songs of indie artists and Americana cult legends, such as Graham Parsons, John Stewart, Lowell George, Dave Carter and the like. The Bone Dry River Band has a broad play-list of over a hundred songs and can adapt to any performance setting, from listening venues that emphasize original music, to bars to coffeehouses, to festivals. The fellows enjoy themselves when they play and that always infects the audience.

* Please wear casual attire.
