Dr. Frances J. Harackiewicz First Female Full Professor in the College of Engineering

Dr. Frances J. Harackiewicz has been promoted to Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This makes her the first-ever female faculty member to hold the rank of Full Professor in the College of Engineering. We congratulate Fran and we hope that many other female faculty members will soon follow in her footsteps.

Dr. Frances J. Harackiewicz received her B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has held summer faculty fellowships at both NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio and the Air Force Research Laboratory at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. Since joining the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, she directs the Antennas and Propagation Laboratory and conducts research in the areas of microstrip and other versatile and compact antennas for mobile wireless applications as well as bringing engineering activities to pre-college classrooms. She is a senior member of the IEEE and a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois. She is counselor for the SIUC student branch of the IEEE, and founding organizer and chair of the IEEE St. Louis Section Education Society Chapter.
