Khadija Stewart wins Research Award

Dr. Fran Harackiewicz, Associate Professor, Khadija Stewart, Ph.D. student and Frances Jarrett, undergraduate student, represented the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the “Indiana Women in Computing” conference (InWIC) held on February 3rd and 4th in Spencer, Indiana.

With 127 academic participants from Purdue University, Indiana University, St. Mary of the Woods College, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and SIUC, this has been the largest regional “Women in Computing” conference on record. Many representatives from industry participated and addressed the conference, including speakers from Google, Microsoft Corporation and Eli Lilly & Company.

Khadija Stewart won the award for “Best Creativity and Scientific Merit” for her poster presentation entitled “Efficient Encryption Module for Sensor Networks.” This was one of four poster awards given, and included, as prize, a copy of “Visual Studio 2006” from Microsoft. Khadija’s presentation reflected part of her research work at SIUC for her doctoral degree under the direction of Dr. Spyros Tragoudas, Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
