Guidelines for Selecting Teaching Assistants
-
First preference is given to Ph.D. Students
(unless none of the available students has the necessary
knowledge or experience to carry out the specific
assignment).
-
Second preference is given to students that have
prior experience and record of success in the specific
assignment, or related assignments.
-
Third preference is given to students who have
successfully taken the course to be assigned (If there are more
than one applicant, the Chair primarily relies on the
recommendation of the course instructor who evaluates the
applicants. Evaluation criteria include competence,
language, communication skills and knowledge of the subject).
Guidelines for Selecting Research Assistants
-
Research Assistants for new faculty members
(from startup packages) are selected by the new faculty members
based on research criteria.
-
Research Assistants (working on grants and contracts
directed by faculty members) are selected by the principal
investigator based on their perceived ability to contribute to the
success of the research project.
