Keep a Cube
American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)
The contestants will form in groups of up to three people and will attempt to construct a container for a cube of dry ice which will prevent the dry ice from melting. Points will be scored by the amount of ice that does not melt.
RULES:
1. Participants may select one item from each group of materials provided:
- Cardboard Box
- Duct tape, masking tape, glue
- Styrofoam packing or newspaper
- Bubble wrap or aluminum foil
2. Students will be provided with dry ice and scissors.
3. 15 minutes is allowed for construction time. Dry ice mass will be measured 30 minutes after construction time.
4. Points will be awarded in accordance with the leftover mass of dry ice.
