Great American Egg Drop Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)

The contestant will package an egg to protect it from breakage after a 1-story fall.  The SME officers will provide all of the materials necessary for the contest the day of the competition.

RULES:

1.  Points will be earned based on the egg’s condition and closeness to the target.

2.  The egg will not be weighed.  Each contestant will receive only one egg and one set of materials.  The egg must not be altered in any way.

3.  Each contestant will be allowed only one egg drop.

4.  All materials will be provided at the event, only materials provided may be used.

5.  This is not a timed event.  It may take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

6.  The final distance measurement will be from the egg, not the device.

7.  A target will be marked in the center of a tarp and the center point will be considered as the high point area.  Further from the center means fewer points.  Missing the tarp entirely will be considered “out of bounds.”  Any egg that drifts out of bounds will forfeit using the distance measurement as a point-earning factor.

8.  Unbroken eggs will earn the highest points, lesser for cracked eggs, and least for completely broken eggs.

Materials List:
