Paper Aircraft Design National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
The contestant will construct an aerodynamic paper aircraft and fly it. Score will be based on flight time and distance. Pictures
RULES:
1. A contestant may enter only one aircraft.
2. The aircraft will be folded from the paper. No metal fasteners such as staples or paper clips may be used. A maximum of two inches of scotch tape or masking tape may be used for a construction aid only. It may not be used for ballast purposes. Water, glue or other adhesives or weights for ballast are prohibited.
3. Each participant shall construct his/her own aircraft, which shall have a wingspan of not less than 8 cm. The flight of the aircraft must be aerodynamic rather than ballistic, and the judgment of the contest committee with respect to aerodynamic flight will be final.
4. Aircraft must be launched behind a starting line. A contestant may fly his aircraft three times. Only the highest scoring flight will be counted.
5. The duration of the flight (t) will be timed in seconds, and the distance between the launch point and landing point (d) will be measured in feet from the throw line to the rear of the plane where it comes to rest. The winner will have the largest value of W as computed by the equation W = 15t + 3d for a single flight.
