NOTICE
The Introduction to Engineering sessions have been cancelled for 2007. Sorry for the inconvience. Some general information can be found below.
Introduction to Engineering
The Introduction to Engineering Program is designed for students to learn about engineering through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and conversations with College of Engineering faculty and students. If you are interested, please complete the online application. Be sure to indicate your session preference. The sessions both follow the same format, but each has room for just 50 students, who must currently be students in tenth or eleventh grade. This is first come first serve, so please register early. You will be notified of your session by May 25th, 2007 and the $100 attendance fee must be received by June 1st, 2007.
Shown here, Dr. Chevalier shares her experience and insight while discussing environmental clean-up concerns with students.

In the picture below, a participant separates “pollution” from water in the Oil Spill Clean-up Lab. This year, students toured the Collegeof Engineering facilities and performed experiments in everything from electrical circuits to three-dimensional modeling to hovercraft construction.

Here students closely inspect a river flow simulation on the Sediment Transport experiment. This lab is designed to show the interaction between rivers and man-made structures, such as bridge support pillars. By varying the profile of the support pillar we can lessen the effect of erosion on the river bed.Experiments like these are designed to give an introduction to the different disciplines offered within engineering. In addition, students are able to preview the types of projects they may be working on as engineering students at SIUC.
