Design a thermal oxidizer for a 5,000 ppmv VOC waste gas at 1000 scfm. 100 ppmv of CO is present in the waste gas. The VOC averages molecular composition of Carbon—68.5%, Hydrogen—11.4%, and Oxygen 20.3 % and the heat of combustion is 1,000,000 Btu/lbmole. Operation at 40% of the LEL is acceptable. A 99% destruction efficiency is required. Provide for 50% recuperative heat recovery.
