The General Electric/LULAC Scholarship Program will award two $5,000 scholarships to qualified minority students who are enrolled as business or engineering majors leading to a bachelor's degree at accredited colleges or universities in the U.S. and will be college sophomores in the fall of 2001. GE/LULAC Scholarship recipients may be offered temporary summer or internship positions with GE businesses; however, the students are under no obligation to accept GE employment.

Eligibility requirements:

 1) Must be a minority student pursuing full-time studies leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university in the U.S.

2) must be classified as a college sophomore in the 2001 fall semester

3) must have a college grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent

4) must be a business or engineering major

5) must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

 

The awards are divided into two equal disbursements made on September 15 and January 31.

Scholarship awards are sent directly to the recipient's college or university and deposited in the recipient's name. The funds will be allocated toward the payment of tuition and academic fees and the purchase of required educational materials and books. The school is custodian of the funds and will disburse the award consistent with the purpose of this program. Recipients are required to be enrolled as full time students and to maintain a cumulative college grade point average of

at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent to be eligible for the second scholarship disbursement. The following criteria is used to select the finalists: academic performance; performance in business- or engineering-related subjects; likelihood of pursuing a career in business or engineering; writing ability; extracurricular activities; and community involvement.
