The General Motors/LULAC Scholarship Program will award twenty $2,000 scholarships to qualified minority students who are enrolled or are planning to enroll as engineering majors leading to bachelor degrees at accredited colleges or universities in the U.S.

Eligibility requirements:

1) must be a minority student pursuing full time studies leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university in the U.S. approved by LULAC and GM

2) must have a college grade point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent or, for entering freshmen, must have a high school grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent

3) entering freshmen must have scored at least 23 on the ACT test (composite) or at least 970 on the SAT test (combined verbal and math)

4) must major in courses leading to a professional career in engineering.

 

The awards are divided into two equal disbursements made on September 15 and January 31. Scholarship awards are sent directly to the recipient's college or university and deposited in

the recipient's name. The funds will be allocated toward the payment of tuition and academic fees, and the purchase of required educational materials and books. The school is custodian of the funds and will disburse the award consistent with the purpose of this program. Recipients are required to be enrolled as full-time students and to maintain a cumulative college grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent to be eligible for the second scholarship disbursement. Selection criteria: The following criteria is used to select the finalists:  academic performance; performance in engineering related subjects; likelihood of pursuing a career in business or

engineering; writing ability; extracurricular activities; and community involvement. To receive information and application forms, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the above address.
