Outreach Programs

            SIUC's Industrial Technology (IT) program is accredited by the National Association of Industrial Technology Weekend-format classes were first conducted  in 1975, when the program was offered at Travis Air Force Base.  SIUC's Industrial Technology weekend program is now offered at military installations and industrial sites from coast to coast.

       The Industrial Technology program is designed to prepare management oriented technical professionals in the economic-enterprise system. Industrial technologists will be involved with: 

  • The application of significant knowledge of theories, concepts, and principles found in the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences, including a thorough grounding in communication skills.
  • The understanding and ability to apply principles and concepts of mathematics and sciences, and the application of computer fundamentals.
  • The application of concepts derived from, and current skills developed in a variety of technical disciplines including, but not limited to,  Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, project management, manufacturing processes, computer-aided manufacturing, motion and time study, facilities planning, industrial safety, production and inventory control,  and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

       Industrial Technology positions are associated with production planning and scheduling, process design, quality control, methods analysis, safety, material and equipment procurement, facility planning, equipment design, job estimation, technical sales, maintenance supervision, and other production-related functions.
