Spring 2009
Instructor: C.J. Hatziadoniu
Outcomes Assessed: DO-5, DO-7, DO-8 and
DO-11.
Assessment Tools by Category:
1. One Project
2. Two in-class Exams
Assessment Tool Description
Project: Design a regulated dc power supply based on the fly-back converter, include the rectifier stage. Use the book notes on magnetic circuits (e.g. book Appendix B) to design the coil. Use SIMULINK to simulate and obtain the supply performance.
Outcomes
Assessed DO-5, DO-8, DO-11
Mid-Term Exam: Diode and thyristor rectifiers, dc-dc regulators: Demonstrate knowledge of the conversion process in the time domain, calculate converter ac/dc output and harmonics, calculate the value of certain system components (capacitors, inductors) to achieve desired performance.
Outcomes Assessed: DO-7, DO-8, DO-11.
Final Exam: PWM inverters, ac and dc motor drives: Demonstrate knowledge of the drive system and its controls fundamentals, calculate motor and converter output, calculate pwm scheme to achieve desired motor performance.
Outcomes Assessed: DO-7, DO-8, DO-11.
