College of Engineering - Women in Engineering Summer Program
Our Mission: To provide young women interested in the fields of science and math, the opportunity to explore the possibilities available within the study of engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale through hands on experiments and interactions with faculty, women in the program, and professionals in the field, all while having fun.

Women in Engineering at SIUC
We want to share an idea with you—an idea that may change your summer or may change your life. The idea is engineering, more specifically women in engineering. This is a field with many possibilities. From designing voice activation systems that enable the handicapped to enjoy greater independence to protecting pristine beaches from oil spills, engineers are involved. The rewards are both personal and financial. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, starting salaries for 2005 engineering graduates averaged over $50,000.

Engineering is not one field but many—all challenging academically and professionally. We know that you are up to the challenge, and we would like to invite you to participate in the Women’s Introduction to Engineering program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale this summer.

In this three-day program you will learn about various engineering disciplines. Members of the SIUC faculty will challenge you with actual engineering problems and college-level engineering experiments. You’ll also have the chance to make new friends from all across the state as you get a taste of life on campus. And your program counselors, young women currently enrolled in the SIUC College of Engineering, will give you the inside scoop on engineering at the college level.

If you are interested, please complete the online application. Be sure to indicate your session preference. The sessions (June 18 - 20, 2007 for Session I or June 25 - 27, 2007 for Session II) both follow the same format, but each has room for just 50 students, who must currently be students in tenth or eleventh grade. This is first come first serve, so please register early. You will be notified of your session by May 25th, 2007 and the $100 attendance fee must be received by June 1st, 2007.
